A Quiz / Case Study on Honesty/ Lateral Thinking

It is a real incident with names changed.

Very recently, an Indian couple, Mr Shah and Mrs Shah went to Singapore on some personal work. One day, they were travelling in a taxi. Just before the point where they were to get down and the taxi was still slowing down, Mrs Shah inadvertently, opened the door of the car near her side to alight. She realized her mistake in the last moment that she should have waited for the taxi to stop before opening the door. Just then, a car coming from behind and in the adjacent lane crossed the taxi and damaged the door of the taxi which was opened by Mrs Shah. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The couple were in distress as Mr Shah felt that Mrs Shah was responsible for the accident as she attempted to open the door even before the taxi could stop.
Within a few minutes, a police team arrived at the scene of the accident to assess the situation and also to complete their formalities from all concerned. As the chief of the police team trying to elicit information from the couple, Mr Shah observed from the name badge on the shirt of the Chief of the Police team that the officer was one Mr Singh, an officer of Indian origin. Immediately, with a smile on his face, Mr Shah indicated suggestively to the Chief of the Police team that he would take care of the officer and requested him to be lenient and spare them from awarding any serious penalty / punishment. The police officer did not respond but informed that the couple should present themselves before the Magistrate at 11 00 hrs next day for a hearing of the case.
As scheduled, the couple presented themselves next day before the Magistrate and the case was presented to him by the Police Officer.

What was the judgment pronounced by the Magistrate?

Please put your thinking hats and guess the answer and send it to me by tomorrow.
If you guess it correctly (even 50% correctly), you can pat yourself for having very good lateral thinking.
If you are not able to guess it, it does not matter. I can provide you the answer by tomorrow.
Have a nice day.
